I Really Want a Dog.
The following is a feedback form to gauge if I'm in a place in my life to adopt a dog! Fill in the blanks and please lmk:
Living alone has been a fun, new experience, but I'm a social hummingbird & miss the homies. Chillin at home in the evenings on my own is just dandy and could be enhanced even more by having _______ by my side every night. (a furry friend // a bottle of wine)
The amount of times I've tried to get a street dog home with me is unknown, successfully accomplished twice but only for a night or a meal.
I also love to run, what's better than having ______ to talk to while exploring the city and new trails. (Jacob, who left me for Yale, // a 4-legged companion)
The dream is a dog that can go anywhere leashless, very common with well trained dogs I've seen here in AQP. And what's a better place to train a dog than a city where the culture cultivates it.
Not only that, but I'd finally become a morning person if I had _______ to get me up before 8am most days. (someone to walk & feed // self discipline)
Financially, I could spend my money on _______ , but what's money if not there to spend. (vet bills and chew toys // weekend trips and more material things)
Security-wise, since I am living alone, it’d be nice knowing my home is protected by _______. (a barking alarm system // my Peace Corps issued firearm*)
When it comes to travel, I could ___________. (jump through the hoops of bringing a dog everywhere // last-minute flights and zero guilt of responsbility)
On tough days, it’d be comforting to have the head of _______ resting on my lap to give plenty of pets. (a pup who thinks I’m the center of the universe // Graham Johnson)
On good days, I'd lounge by the river and could _____________. (chat my friends who refuse to jump in // splash in the water with my dog)
The biggest factor, of course, is the end of my time in Peru, when I'd have to ________ before I leave. (pay $$$$ to bring my pup home with me // find them a new home)
So, do I get a dog?
*I don't have a Peace Corps issued firearm
*I didn't pass the training

i say try to foster like idk is that a thing in peru
ReplyDeleteThat's what I said!!
Deletedo it
ReplyDeleteI’ve been a dog for 5 years now and I can say we are a lot of work, but also a lot of fun. Personally, I’d be fine with being rehoused at the end of your time in Peru, but a lot of my buddies wouldn’t be able to handle that kind of heartbreak. Good luck Evan, you seem like you’d be a great owner whenever you decide to get a pup. Hope this helps
ReplyDeleteI think you could do it! It seems like you really want to! The biggest things are the time, money, and possible rehoming after your time in Peru. As long as you really weigh your options (which you clearly are!), I totally think you can make it work and give a dog a beautiful life :D
ReplyDeleteWhy’s everyone being a coward and staying anonymous. But can u foster dogs there? That would be fun.
